What is SEO?
SEO is a marketing practice focused on naturally (or organically) improving the visibility of a website in search engine results. By saying the visibility of a site is improved naturally or organically, or that it is an earned ranking means that the visibility of a website on a search engine is increased without paying for it.
SEO comprises all activities to ensure that your website is ranked well by search engines. This can simply be a matter of the way your website is structured, ensuring search engines understand it. It can, however, also relate to activities that helps include certain keywords that relate to your business or brand, or to the way other websites link to yours on the web.
Why do you need SEO?
SEO is no longer an option — it is now essential to your business’s success. This makes the money you spend on it the best you may ever spend when it comes to marketing, as SEO is, after all, marketing!
A typical user on the internet does not want to click though heaps of pages of search results in order to find the page they are looking for. In fact, studies have shown that 75% of internet users do not go beyond the first page of results on a search engine. This means that, if your website does not rank on the first page of a search engine’s results, 75% of customers will never reach your website.
Compounding this is the growth in mobile technologies. Have you counted the number of search results on “page 1” of a mobile or smart phone? It is way less than in the case of a desktop or laptop device, so having a coherent strategy to target your online visibility is now more critical than ever.
In order for your website to be as close as possible to the top of the search engine results, your website needs SEO.
What is Pay-Per-Click (PPC)?
Pay-per-click is an advertising product presented by search engines whereby payment attracts on a per click basis from an advertisement of your business or brand in search engine result pages. The order of advertisements is determined on a bidding basis with reference to the cost per click you commit to fund. A financial deposit to the search engine is required, which in turn funds the PPC campaign. Your PPC campaign is established with a budget per day and/or month. Once this budget is depleted, your advertisement is removed from search engine result pages.
Is SEO necessary?
Along with social media, branding, advertising and other marketing strategies, SEO forms an integral part of marketing your business. By ensuring your website is ranked high on search engine results, more customers will reach your business information and increase your business.
SEO also increases your business without significantly increasing your marketing costs through the simple fact that more customers will reach your website through search. Put differently – SEO offers excellent ROI, promising better value than traditional forms of marketing. It is important to keep in mind that no advertising campaign will improve your websites’ ranking on a search engine. This makes SEO an extremely important addition to advertising, while also making it one of the most cost effective marketing strategies.
Is SEO affordable?
In comparison to pay-per-click (PPC) advertising, SEO is extremely cost effective. PPC involves paying a search engine on a daily basis to post an advertisement for your business, linking to your website. If you bid the highest amount, your website will be the first result in the search engines results for related searches. You then receive a certain number of clicks, depending on your budget. After your budget is depleted, your ad disappears from the top of the search results.
SEO, on the other hand, involves paying an expert in SEO a fee to ensure that your website naturally or organically achieves a high ranking on search engine results. This ranking is earned, meaning you do not directly pay the search engine in order to achieve a high ranking for a limited amount of clicks. With an organically earned ranking you are not limited to a certain amount of clicks. This means your position on the search results does not disappear after a certain number of clicks has been reached. So, through SEO your online presence will be constant.
By using SEO you will not have to constantly pay a search engine to ensure a high ranking on search engine results, which makes for a pretty expensive marketing campaign. By paying a SEO expert, rather than paying a search engine on a daily basis for pay-per-click advertising, SEO offers an excellent return on investment.
Do search engines really matter?
Almost all internet users use search engines to navigate the internet. This is because users, at the very best, know only a handful of website addresses by heart. They will therefor turn to a search engine to do searches, typing in key words into the search engine.
It is important to note that 70% of users will click only on organic search results, ignoring pay-per-click advertisements. For this reason it is important to ensure your website has gone through the SEO process.
How does social media marketing relate to SEO?
Social media and SEO are very tightly interwoven. Search engines such as Google are constantly monitoring the quality of your social media engagement. They look at your social media profiles, monitoring the relevance of what you share and post as well as who your contacts are and how influential they are. You should, for example, always post and share content relevant to your business or brand. Your contacts also need to be relevant and influential in this way. According to the quality of these links, posts, shares and contacts, they determine your ranking on search results.
Put simply, if you have relevant contacts, posts and shares on your social media accounts, your rankings on search engine results will improve.
We here at Cape Business Online offer SEO packages that also include social media services, such as social media marketing and profile maintenance. We also boost your social media posts to your specific target audience, ensuring your posts reach the social media users you want them to reach.
This combination of SEO and social media services ensures that your website’s ranking will increase significantly, improving your business and sales!
